Templates help you ensure quality and standardize research across your organization. They can be created by managers to help give teams a starting set of data, tags, and project configurations to skip the set up process and kick start new projects faster.
This feature is only available on Team, Business and Enterprise plans. Check out our pricing page for more information about our plans available.
Pricing pageTo create a project template, managers can go to ⚙️ Settings > Templates > + New Template. From there, you will be directed into the project template itself for editing.
When someone starts a new project from your template, everything in the template will be duplicated for them, including the readme, groups and colors, any notes, tags, or insights, and the content within notes, tags, and insights.
You can also convert an existing project into a template. To do this, open the project's settings and select Convert to template.
Any project converted to a template will display all content in the project including:
Readme & docs
Content views and their filtering (left side bar in a project)
Tags and fields
Please note that the project will no longer be an active project and will live as a template in your workspace.
Managers can edit all content within the project template, however, edits will only be applied to future projects that start from the amended template.
To edit a project template, go to ⚙️ Settings > Templates and next to your chosen template, press Settings.
From there, the template will open for you to start editing this.
Only Dovetail managers can create new and edit existing project templates. Contributors can create a project from a template, but cannot modify the original template. Viewers cannot create projects at all, so they won’t be able to use templates.
You can also restrict access of a template to certain individuals or groups so that they are the only users with the ability to use a template.
To do this, go to Templates > Open your template’s Settings > Share.
From there, you can update the template’s access by amending the workspace’s access to No access and add specific individuals or individuals to have Full, Edit or View access.
