The Dovetail community is a place for you to connect with like-minded people and level up your research practice. What's in the community?

In the community, you'll find project and tag board templates that have been published by the community.

  • Project templates include everything you need to set up your project. They're tried and tested approaches to help you get from raw data to insights. You’ll find the Readme, views, fields, tag boards, layouts, and more—just add data and get tagging.

  • Tag boards are tagging taxonomies that help you add structure to your analysis. You’ll find tags, groups, colors, descriptions, and ordering, and they can be applied to any existing project.

Import a community project template

Anyone with a Dovetail contributor or manager role can view, duplicate, and edit their own version of any project template.

To import a project from the community into your workspace, go to Community > Projects > Select a project template > Install.

Once successfully installed, you will see a pop-up to View the project in your workspace. Alternatively, navigate to Projects to see the new project in your workspace ready to use and edit.

To import a tag board from the community into your workspace, go to Community > Tag boards > Select a tag board template > Install > Select a project to import the tag board into.

Once successfully installed, you will be re-directed to the tag board in your chosen template. This can be used to highlight content in your project and edited at any time.

Publish a community project template

Project templates can be submitted by anyone in your workspace with edit access to the project. To submit a project template to the community, open your project > Click on the project name > Publish to community.

A form will appear where you'll be asked for details about your project:

  • Choose a title for your project template. Users can search for your project template using this name or via relevant keywords. You can use a different name than the original project.

  • Write a description of your project template. Use this space to tell people about the project, how they can use it, who might find it helpful, or describe how it’s been useful for you.

  • Add some labels to help us categorize your file and to help others find it.

  • Credit contributors. We suggest adding the name and photo of the person/s who created the tag board, as well as the name and logo of your company (if applicable).

  • Upload a cover image.

  • You can preview how your tag board will look in the community on the right-hand side and the thumbnail at the bottom of the form.

  • Once you’re happy with your submission, press Submit.
