Changes to legacy plans

Overview

We’ve recently released powerful new AI magic features that fit seamlessly into your workflow, helping you uncover insights hidden in customer data faster than ever before. To reflect this added value plus years of product improvements, we’re updating our pricing and deprecating legacy plans.

If you’re an existing customer on one of our legacy self-serve plans (Pro, Personal Pro, Starter, Team), you won’t have access to our latest magic features, channels, or future features. At your next renewal, you’ll be moved to our new Professional plan, but you can always switch before this time to gain access to new features such as magic search, magic highlight, channels, user profiles, our API, and more.

How do I know if I am on a legacy plan?

Workspace admins can find information about their current plan by navigating to Settings → Billing. The Your plan card at the top of the page contains your current plan, price, included users, and renewal date.

How do I see what features are available on my plan?

Workspace admins can access a pricing table that compares the features available on their plan with those available on our current Free, Professional, and Enterprise plans by navigating to Settings → Billing → Update plan.

In some instances, the ‘Update plan’ button may be greyed out. If this is the case, please contact our support team, and we can assist.

How do I upgrade my plan?

Workspace admins can upgrade to our new plans from a legacy plan by navigating to Settings → Billing → Update plan, and selecting one of the available plans.

You can switch to a Free or Professional plan anytime, or contact our sales team if you’d like to switch to our Enterprise plan. When switching to the Free or Professional plan, you’ll see a dialog outlining what parts of your workspace will change and if any manual changes are required. If the ‘Update plan’ button is greyed out for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our support team, and we can assist.

When will the plan change happen?

We’re notifying customers of this change by sending emails two months, one month, and 3 days before the end of the billing period.

Your workspace will be automatically migrated to our new Professional plan at the end of your billing period. So if you’re paying month-to-month, this will happen whenever you’re billed within the month. If you’re paying annually, this will happen at the end of your current annual period.

Can I stay on my legacy plan?

Unfortunately not as we are deprecating support for all legacy pricing plans. If you need more time to make a decision, reach out to our support team who may be able to give you an extension, or connect you with our sales team who can help you decide what plan is best for you.

If I switch to Free, do I need to merge my projects into one?

Yes, our new Free plan only includes one project. If you switch to this plan, you will need to remove any additional projects and folders so that you have no more than one.

What will happen to my workspace tags and fields?

Workspace tags and workspace fields are now on our Enterprise plan. If you’re on a Team (Legacy) plan and are switching to our Professional or Free plan, you’ll no longer have access to these features.

Workspace tags and workspace fields will become read-only. They can still be used on projects that they’re currently linked to, but you won’t be able to link new projects or create new workspace tags or fields.

What will happen to my templates?

Workspace templates are now on our Enterprise plan. If you’re on a Team (Legacy) plan and are switching to our Professional or Free plan, you’ll no longer have access to workspace templates.

What will happen to access control?

Access control is now on our Enterprise plan. If you’re on a Team (Legacy) plan and are switching to our Professional or Free plan, any projects or folders with access controls set will become read-only until permissions for the entire workspace are reset to ‘Full access’.

How will my bill change?

Depending on your current plan, moving to Professional may reduce what you pay for Dovetail, or work out about the same. In a small number of cases, your bill may be a lot higher than what you’re currently paying.

This could be because some legacy plans included a minimum number of seats (i.e. 3 or 5). Our new Professional plan has no minimum number of seats. If you’re not using these extra seats, try reducing your seat count in advance of your renewal or before you upgrade to Professional.

If you’re particularly concerned about this pricing change, please reach out to our support team who will help you optimize your bill and select the right plan for you.

Why are you releasing new plans?

We’ve improved Dovetail substantially over the past five years, shipping hundreds of features while keeping our pricing the same for existing customers during this entire time. We’re also facing the effects of the economy—rising salaries, infrastructure, marketing expenses, and new costs for LLMs to power our AI magic.

To reflect our product’s value, rising costs, and the feature inclusions that make sense for different customers, we’ve created three new pricing plans called Free, Professional, and Enterprise, which offer great value for everyone—from a student all the way up to a Fortune 500 business.

Over the years, we’ve learned how certain features suit customers at different sizes and stages. Our new Free plan accommodates those with low or zero budgets. Our Professional plan is feature-rich for end-users, great for most teams and medium-sized businesses. Advanced functionality, compliance, and administration features are now in our Enterprise plan so we can provide customers with human support to set these up.
